Syma Scans (Muga Scan)

The purpose of this test

• Measure the contractile function of the heart muscle, mainly the left ventricle
• Assess wall motion, cardiac enlargement, hypertrophy, and pumping, also called ejection fraction

How to Prepare for Your Test

• No preparation is needed.

What to Expect During the Test

• Two injections are given about 30 minutes apart. A gamma camera is then used to image the heart for approximately 15 minutes.
• The test takes about 60 to 75 minutes.
