Faster care across Trillium Health Partners with five MRI machines now in operation
April 2, 2026 (Etobicoke, ON) – Patients have faster access to MRI scans, closer to home, with MRI services now operational at the Queensway Health Centre. The addition of this MRI expands Trillium Health Partners’ diagnostic imaging services and brings the total number of MRI machines across its hospital sites to five, helping improve access to timely diagnosis and coordinated care for patients across the region.
The new MRI marks an important step forward in enhancing both the speed and accuracy of diagnosis and treatment. With this new equipment, Trillium Health Partners is expanding MRI capacity across its hospital sites, supporting approximately 3,000 additional scans this year.
To further advance our capabilities, Trillium Health Partners is leveraging leading AI to enhance the Diagnostic Imaging program’s clarity, speed, and precision. AI tools such as Qure.ai and Deep Resolve Boost support earlier identification of urgent cases, reduce imaging related incidents, and enable faster scans with exceptional image quality.
This is part of Trillium Health Partners’ broader plan to embed AI not only in point of care, but everyday operations and planning to deliver a more comfortable and efficient experience for patients and Team THP. Expanded imaging capacity helps patients receive answers sooner, begin treatment earlier, and access care closer to home, while also supporting clinical teams in delivering more coordinated care.
“For patients and care teams, bringing MRI services to Queensway Health Centre is an important step forward in delivering faster, world class care closer to home,” said Karli Farrow, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners. “It makes care easier to access and supports our teams to deliver coordinated, efficient care – while building the foundation for the future home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre.”
Trillium Health Partners continues to work closely with government and health system partners to strengthen diagnostic imaging services and improve access to care for the communities it serves.
“Our government is ensuring hospitals across the province have the funds they need to operate their new MRI machines and increase access to diagnostic imaging for people in their communities,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “The first MRI at the Queensway Health Centre demonstrates the importance of government funding that supports both modern health care infrastructure to ensure that residents will have more convenient access to care closer to home.”
As part of its ongoing investment in improving people’s access to diagnostic imaging services and reducing wait times, the Ontario government is investing over $800K in Trillium Health Partners in base funding to support the Queensway Health Centre’s first MRI machine.
“Under Premier Ford’s leadership, we are investing in health and other critical infrastructure with the most ambitious capital plan in Ontario’s history,” said Acting Minister of Infrastructure, Todd McCarthy. “Our government’s investments will transform the Queensway Health Centre into a modern centre for rehabilitation and complex continuing care, and redevelop the Mississauga Hospital, expanding capacity and improving access to services across Trillium Health Partners. Our investments ensure that Ontarians can rely on a strong and connected health care system close to home.”
In addition to the MRI, the newly renovated CT and Fluoroscopy suites at Queensway Health Centre further enhance access to high quality, world class diagnostic care closer to home, reinforcing Trillium Health Partners’ commitment to faster, more connected care across sites.
