Final Beam Raised at The Future Home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre

Marking a major milestone that advances access to personalized, seamless, and digitally connected rehabilitation and complex continuing care close to home

January 16, 2026 (Etobicoke, ON) – Today, Trillium Health Partners and the Ontario Government, together with donors and community partners, marked a major milestone in the construction of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre by raising the final structural beam. This milestone represents important progress toward a more connected system of care that improves access, outcomes, and experiences, helping people receive rehabilitation and complex continuing care sooner and closer to home.

Signed by more than 1,200 patients, families, Team THP, government partners, donors, volunteers, and community partners, the beam raising reflects our collective purpose to build a new kind of health care, defined not by illness, but by the health and well-being of people and communities. Once installed, the beam will stand as a permanent reminder of the commitment that has helped bring this vision to life.

“Today’s beam signing brings together Team THP, patients, government and system partners, donors and community members around a shared goal: to improve care, elevate health, and help communities thrive,” said Karli Farrow, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners. “Made possible through a historic investment from the Ontario government and a transformative philanthropic contribution from Peter Gilgan and the Gilgan family, The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre reflects a shared commitment to advancing accessible, high-quality rehabilitation and complex continuing care, delivered closer to home for people today and in the future.”

Demand for rehabilitation and complex continuing care continues to rise as the population ages and health needs become more complex. Through its Plan to 2030, Trillium Health Partners is re-imagining care to help more people live longer, healthier lives through expanded digital capabilities and strengthened partnerships. Bringing all rehabilitation and complex continuing care together at The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will make transitions smoother and care safer, helping more patients receive care closer to home and return to their daily life sooner.

Ongoing engagement with clinical providers, patients, and community members has shaped the hospital’s design to improve care experiences while maximizing efficiency and cost effectiveness through standardization. Building on an existing property also reduces costs and supports Trillium Health Partners' vision for The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre as a future health campus.

This new investment in health care infrastructure will expand access to cutting-edge rehabilitation and complex continuing care, helping people recover from serious illness, injury, or surgery. Key features will include:

  • Bright therapy spaces on every floor, including purpose-built areas for group rehabilitation
  • Accessible design elements, natural light, and outdoor therapy areas that promote mobility, independence, and a supportive environment for patients and families
  • Advanced digital technology to support coordinated, patient-centred care and faster clinical decision making
  • Modern environments shaped through engagement with patients, care teams, and community members
  • 100% private rooms, with more than 350 rooms designed with input from patients and care teams to meet the needs of our community

With the structure now at full height, the project is 40% of the way toward substantial completion and is moving into the next phase focused on enclosing the building and finishing the spaces where patients will receive care. This project and moment have been made possible through strong collaboration among government partners, Infrastructure Ontario, EllisDon Corporation, and a community of generous supporters.
