For Dr. Ivan Diamond, diagnostic imaging is about clarity, helping clinicians quickly see what matters most and make informed decisions.
In busy clinical environments where imaging volumes continue to grow, identifying urgent findings quickly is critical.
At Trillium Health Partners, AI is helping strengthen that process. Embedded directly as part of how scans are reviewed, AI tools analyze images and flag potential urgent findings, supporting radiologists to prioritize cases and focus attention where it matters most.
“These tools provide an added layer of clinical support,” says Dr. Diamond, Chief and Medical Director of the Cator Family Diagnostic Imaging Program. “They help ensure the most urgent cases are identified early, while every scan continues to be reviewed by a radiologist.”
This added support helps teams act more quickly when time matters. Acting as a second set of eyes, AI can flag potential concerns, such as signs of bleeding in the brain, so they can be reviewed and addressed sooner.
Today, multiple AI tools are in use across diagnostic imaging, supporting areas such as stroke detection, lung nodule identification, and bone health assessment. Each tool is carefully tested using local data and monitored to ensure it works safely and effectively for the diverse community Trillium Health Partners serves.
AI-enabled imaging can also cut MRI scan times by as much as half, helping patients receive answers and care sooner.
This work is supported by recent upgrades to the Cator Family Diagnostic Imaging Program, including enhanced exam rooms and the addition of the Queensway Health Centre’s first MRI. These upgrades are helping more patients receive timely diagnoses and access care closer to home.
Looking ahead, Trillium Health Partners will continue to expand the use of digital tools like AI to support care teams, shorten wait times, improve access to timely diagnosis, and deliver high-quality care to a growing community.
