Preparing the Workforce of the Future

Helping build a skilled, connected workforce for the future.

Health care is becoming more complex, and teams need to be ready for moments that are fast-paced, high-risk, and deeply human. Preparing for those moments means more than training individuals - it means building teams that can think, act, and learn together.

At Trillium Health Partners, education is embedded directly into care. Future health professionals from a range of health disciplines train as teams, strengthening communication, coordination, and decision-making in real-world environments. This approach reflects a shift toward more connected, team-based care, where learning continues throughout a career and directly improves how care is delivered.

Simulation-based education brings this to life. In 2025–26, more than 300 simulation sessions engaged over 2,800 future health care providers and interprofessional team members, creating opportunities to practise complex scenarios safely while building confidence and strengthening skills. For Dr. Rodrigo Careaga, Chief Medical Resident at the Credit Valley Hospital, that experience translates directly into patient care. “Simulation gives us the opportunity to practise complex, high-pressure scenarios as a team. It builds confidence going into real patient situations and reinforces how we communicate and make decisions together when it matters most.”

This work is also helping grow the future workforce. Expanded placements across nursing and health care roles reflect a strong commitment to training the next generation, with more than 400 nursing students returning to Trillium Health Partners after a previous placement.

“Education isn’t separate from care - it’s foundational to it,” says Dr. Alison Freeland, Executive Vice President, Academic. “Simulation prepares today’s teams, inspires the next generation of health professionals, and builds the skills and expertise needed to reimagine care as we build Canada’s largest hospital.”

By strengthening team-based learning and investing in future talent, Trillium Health Partners is shaping a more connected, resilient health system for the future.
