Employee Health, Safety and Wellness

To do that, our team needs to be healthy and above all, to work in an environment that is safe, supportive and flexible in meeting the needs of our people.
 
Trillium’s Employee Health, Safety and Wellness Department has developed a strong and comprehensive program designed to meet the current needs of today’s workforce while taking a proactive role in preventative health and safety measures.

Attendance Management Program

 
Maximizing our ability to maintain a healthy and active workforce, Trillium has a comprehensive Attendance Management Program in place designed to promote regular attendance, an essential element to job performance. No one likes to be sick, but when employees are faced with illness, Employee Health, Safety and Wellness works closely with individuals to support them in their return to health and the workplace.

Ergonomic Consultation

 
Recognizing the musculoskeletal risks for many who work in a health care environment, Trillium has an excellent service in place to proactively address the needs of its employees. The role of the ergonomic consultants is to provide consultative expertise to staff, management, the Joint Health & Safety Committees and their colleagues in Employee Health, Safety and Wellness, through educational sessions, assistance with accident investigations, physical demands analysis, new project planning, standardization of new furniture purchases, other equipment purchases including patient lifting devices, work station assessments and employee

Employee Assistance Program

 
The more complex life becomes, the more challenges we face at home and at work. When those challenges become overwhelming Trillium’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers a voluntary, confidential short-term counselling and advisory service for employees and eligible family members that connects them to a network of dedicated professionals who are available with assistance 24 hours a day.

Flu Program

 
To assist our employees, physicians and volunteers to maintain their health, Trillium coordinates and delivers a highly visible annual flu awareness campaign and offers complimentary flu vaccine through a program designed to meet everyone’s individual schedules. The Employee Health, Safety and Wellness team schedules clinics at both hospital sites throughout the month of November, including daytime, evening and weekend hours. It also offers a traveling vaccine cart, as well as providing vaccine through their office.

Lunch 'n' Learns

 
Throughout the year, members of the Employee Health, Safety and Wellness team collaborate with the Health Information & Wellness team to coordinate ‘Lunch 'n' Learn’ sessions covering a wide variety of topics related to health and wellness in the workplace. The sessions offer everything from guest speakers, to fitness and relaxation demonstrations, to contests. The team selects

Modified Work Program

 
The hospital’s Modified Work Program is designed to facilitate and support employee recovery following an illness or injury. Trillium recognizes that most employees are eager to return to work as soon as possible. Employee Health, Safety and Wellness maintains a positive relationship with managers who are instrumental in accommodating the need for restrictions to enable employees to return to the workplace during their recovery period.

Physiotherapy Service

 
A full time physiotherapist in Employee Health, Safety and Wellness provides therapy for employees with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Assessments to ensure a safe fit with physically demanding jobs, personal exercise and strengthening programs, and therapy for acute pain are offered free of charge.

Safety Consultant

 
Trillium’s Safety Consultant coordinates occupational health hygiene testing across both hospital sites and is a member of the hospital’s Joint Health and Safety Committees. The consultant is also available to troubleshoot on safety issues and provides support to prevention strategies, including accident investigations.

Standardized Furniture and Equipment

 
The expertise of Trillium’s ergonomic consultants has been instrumental in achieving standardization in the purchase of key pieces of furniture and equipment used throughout the hospital in both patient care areas and office spaces. The expertise of the team has been tapped to ensure the hospital is purchasing furniture and equipment that is best suited to meet the physical demands of its employees. Among the items that have been standardized are office and task chairs, keyboard trays, patient room chairs, I.V. poles and wheelchairs for patient transportation.
